This piece is a Longquan celadon vase with double fish handles, covered overall in a lustrous celadon glaze of tranquil and refined hue. The body is well-potted with firm, dense clay; the rounded belly rises smoothly to the shoulders, where a pair of symmetrically arranged fish-shaped handles are applied. The fish ornaments are rendered with concise yet vivid modelling, symbolizing “abundance year after year,” a traditional auspicious motif frequently seen in Longquan ware since the Southern Song period. The vessel’s contours expand and contract with natural grace, its neck rising in a slender, upright form before narrowing elegantly to the foot. Minute crackles appear on the glaze surface—an expected feature produced during high-temperature firing in Longquan kilns. The shape, glaze, and body all demonstrate stylistic characteristics consistent with the period. Vases of this type were typically used as refined display pieces in scholars’ studios or domestic halls, signifying the owner’s cultivated taste and prosperity.
